Geoff Duke.

Nació en St.Helens ( Gran Bretaña ) , el 29 de Marzo de 1923.Fue el piloto dominante en la década de 1950, ganando seis campeonatos mundiales (dos en 350cc y cuatro en 500cc) y cinco veces el Tourist Trophy de la Isla de Man.

Después de ganar sus tres primeros campeonatos mundiales los años 1951 (350cc y 500cc) y 1952 (350cc) con Norton sorprendió a todos firmando por una marca extranjera, el fabricante italiano Gilera. Fue odiado por sus compatriotas cuando se marchó a correr con los italianos, cosa que por entonces estaba muy mal visto.

Pero tanto con las Norton Manx como con las Gilera 500-4 demostró ser un gran piloto que no se equivocó en su decisión. En 1953 volvió a ganar el campeonato para su nueva marca, título que repetiría los dos siguientes años.

Una lesión y una sanción de seis meses impuesta por secundar una huelga de pilotos en 1955 marcaron el final de su carrera deportiva no pudiendo ganar su cuarto titulo mundial de 500cc consecutivo, rematándolo con la retirada de Gilera en 1957. Aunque corrió de nuevo con Norton y BMW no tenía muchas posibilidades frente a la competitivas MV Agusta y en 1959 decidió marcharse.

Después de retirarse de las carreras, Duke se convirtió en un hombre de negocios y creó la escudería Duke junto con Gilera para producir máquinas de competición.

Por todo lo demostrado fue premiado por la Casa Real Británica con la imposición del título de Caballero de la Orden del Imperio Británico.
